


























The Massachusetts Institute of Technology, U.S., ranked first in engineering and technology in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026, marking its 17th consecutive year at the top.
The U.S.-based institute also secured the first positions in six specialized fields within broad area of engineering and technology: chemical engineering; civil and structural engineering; computer science and information systems; data science and artificial intelligence; electrical and electronic engineering; and mechanical, aeronautical, and manufacturing engineering.
The rankings are compiled annually by U.K.-based educational analyst Quacquarelli Symonds, which evaluates universities using five indicators: academic reputation, employer reputation, citations per paper, research productivity and impact, and international research collaboration.
The 2026 edition assessed more than 21,000 academic programs across 1,912 institutions in 100 countries and territories.

The top 10 was dominated by institutions from the U.S. and the U.K., with four and three entries each, while Switzerland and Singapore were the only other countries represented.
ETH Zurich in Switzerland ranked third, rising two places from the previous year.
Singapore was the only Asian country with two universities in the top 10, with the National University of Singapore ranked eighth and Nanyang Technological University tenth.
In the overall QS university rankings, MIT also ranked as the world’s top university, maintaining the position for 14 consecutive years.
