MIT graduates earn the highest median salaries among U.S. college alumni four years after completing their degrees, according to a recent Business Insider ranking.
The ranking, based on the U.S. Department of Education’s College Scorecard database, looked at median earnings of former students who received federal financial aid and were employed four years after graduation.
MIT topped the list with median earnings of $162,000. California Institute of Technology ranked second at $153,000, followed by Samuel Merritt University at $148,000, according to Business Insider.
Stanford University and Harvey Mudd College tied for fourth place, with graduates from both institutions reporting median earnings of $137,000.
Harvard University ranked sixth at $135,000, while Carnegie Mellon University came seventh with median earnings of $133,000.

The Department of Education said earnings can vary depending on factors such as field of study and location, with graduates working in high-paying industries and major metropolitan areas often earning more.
Business Insider also found that computer science, engineering, mathematics, nursing and biomedical sciences were among the most common majors at the highest-ranked schools, using data from Niche and U.S. News & World Report.
