Chinese robotics company UniX AI has unveiled Panther, an AI-powered humanoid robot designed to perform everyday household tasks.

In a video released recently by the company, Panther, described as "the world’s first robot truly operating in real home environments," is shown opening curtains to wake its owner before arranging the bed and managing household appliances.

It then prepares breakfast, including operating a blender and making a salad, before continuing with tasks such as cleaning rooms, washing clothes, and tidying up the house after the user leaves for work.

Panther stands about 5 feet 3 inches (160 cm) tall and weighs roughly 176 pounds (80 kg). It can operate for 8 to 16 hours on a single charge and moves on a wheeled omnidirectional base, according to Interesting Engineering.

UniX AI said the wheeled design improves stability and energy efficiency compared to bipedal humanoid robots, making it more suitable for indoor environments requiring long operating hours and reliable mobility.

The robot is equipped with dual bionic arms featuring eight degrees of freedom each, capable of lifting up to 26 pounds and reaching nearly one meter, with a precision of about 0.5 millimeters for object handling.

It also includes cameras, sensors, and audio systems that enable it to recognize objects, navigate indoor spaces, and interact with people.

Despite recent advances, experts say household robots still face major hurdles before becoming mainstream consumer products.

Homes present complex environments with clutter, varied lighting, and objects of different shapes and textures, making automation more difficult than in controlled industrial settings. Handling soft materials such as clothing, navigating tight spaces, and interacting with a wide range of household appliances remain technically challenging.
