What you need to know about Orange's new email protections
Asharee Peters · 2025-06-24 · via Buttondown's blog

This month, Orange announced new SPAM protections.

Orange is committed to delivering a reliable and secure service to its users. As such, we prioritize the rigorous assessment of incoming emails and the proactive management of unsolicited messages.

To pass their mandatory authentication mechanisms, Orange now requires at least one of the following mechanisms:

  • SPF is required
  • DKIM signing is strongly recommended
  • DMARC is strongly recommended
  • ARC sealing is required for forwarded messages

Additionally, for large senders (more than 1000 messages per day), starting mid-August 2025, 0.6% or above spam report rate might trigger some protection mechanisms. Orange also put out an important note to users**:** As of early 2025, Orange is planning on decreasing the complaint rate from 1% to 0.3% before triggering protection mechanisms.

In the grand scheme of things, this is a good change, and we're happy Orange is taking steps to curtail spam. We support these updates and hope that Orange will continue to go in the direction of increasing protections to weed out the handful of malicious senders blasting out cold emails and fake scammy advertising emails that are poised to ruin the inbox. The vast majority of folks sending emails are well-intentioned, good actors who want to keep inboxes a sacred place, free of annoying spam. Kudos to Orange for doing the work to keep inboxes safe and secure!

We'll always let you know if you are in danger of running afoul of these types of limits across ESPs (like the recent Gmail protection updates).
