Join us for the glitziest, glamouriest award ceremony in public transit. We’re donning our gilded driving gloves and shining the diamante-studded card readers – the biggest stars of public transit are out tonight and this is their moment to shine.
This is a record-breaking year for the Riders Choice Awards. More riders than ever contributed to our quarterly surveys, tallying a grand total of 168,439 responses.

But we didn’t stop there. For the first time, we included awards from Rate-My-Ride, based on 157,169,836 responses from the US and Canada alone (never mind the other 27 countries!).

Where would we be without bus operators? Probably still at the stop, late for work. Operators are the living, breathing, braking, and turning heart of public transit.
Defending their 2024 “Best Bus Operators” title, C-Tran returns to nab the top spot for Vancouver, WA. Metro Transit in Twin Cities, MN, surges into second, as TriMet’s operators join us on the “Best Bus Operators” podium for the third year running.
Down in the 305, the sun is shining on Miami-Dade Transit operators as riders crown their operators most improved.

After every trip, we ask riders whether their ride was a 5-star experience.
These routes received the highest rate of 5-star ratings, exemplifying what riders want out of public transportation: reliability, punctuality, and a sprinkle of je ne sais quoi – maybe it’s that friendly driver, easy fare payment, or a prime people-watching perch.
Congratulations to California’s Monterey-Salinas Transit: the 43 came out on top as the highest-rated route in the US and Canada. Next up, Toronto, ON makes like a Blue Jay and clinches second place for the TTC’s 67 service. Third by the teensiest sliver, RTS in Rochester, NY, mops up the bronze for the 19 service – hot dog!
TARC over in Louisville, KY slugged it out for most improved compared to 2024 – a hearty thank you from the riders of the 28.

Lighting and trashcans and benches, oh my! At the end of a long day, comfortable stops make the whole transit experience feel more welcoming.
This year, VIA Metropolitan Transit’s riders always had a spot to kick up their spurs, while OC Bus made it EZ to snag a shaded seat. Meanwhile up on the Wet Coast, C-Tran kept riders snug and dry at the stop. Bravissimo!!
Scooting over the border, BC Transit riders in Kamloops, BC, reported the biggest improvement in stop comfort this year.

Punctual service builds riders’ trust in their local transit network – no one likes to toe-tap at the bus stop while the day starts without them. These are the agencies that we can set our watch to!
Metro Transit services operated with princely efficiency this year, shuttling between the Twin Cities with startling accuracy. Closely followed by Pioneer Valley, MA’s PVTA and TriMet over in Portland, OR. Boston’s MBTA has pahked up right on time to collect most improved for this category – well-earned after their efforts to improve reliability on the T.

Bus to work, or live to bus? Public transit is a dang-near daily ritual for some riders. Houston proved that everything’s bigger in Texas, including the number of days riders used Houston’s METRO. Next up is the Big Apple, where the closers on the MTA’s sterling New York City Subway scooped the silver. Finally, it doesn’t get much bigger than Mr. Worldwide, with Miami-Dade Transit bagging the bronze.
Last but not least, TriMet’s riders get a special mention for claiming most improved. Good hustle!

Anaheim Regional Transportation’s ART buses were cartoonishly shiny, topping the cleanliness scale as they carried Mickey-eared riders to the House of the Mouse. Meanwhile the supercommuters on the Altamont Corridor Express (ACE) always had a crumb-free surface to settle in with their laptops. Burbank Bus bustles in to sweep up the third spotless spot.
Félicitations to Drummondville for winning most improved, rest assured that riders noticed the extra elbow grease this year.

When we spot riders waiting at a stop after we thought their ride was due, Rate-My-Ride will ask what happened. Sometimes it’s just running a touch behind schedule (and there’s no one onboard to crowdsource real-time), but sometimes riders were visited by the spookiest apparition of all: the ghost bus.
çRiders checked all over Kings County, CA, and found nothing strange going on in KART’s neighbourhoods! Meanwhile, Mountain View Community Shuttle and Turlock Transit kept the Frisco Bay and Central Valley phantom-free. Chatham Area Transit riders also noted a sharp drop in Savannah spirits. Well done!

There’s about a million ways to get around without owning a car, and we’re fans of all of them. When public transit doesn’t take you right to your door (or you just want to feel the wind in your hair), it’s handy to have a slew of alternative modes at your fingertips.
Metro Transit and Denver’s RTD defend the top two rankings in this year’s transportation-options-that-aren’t-public-transportation head-to-head, albeit with a one-two switcheroo for the top spot!
San Francisco’s Muni riders reveal their multimodal prowess, bunnyhopping into third place. Finally, our compatriots TransLink over in Vancouver, BC, win most improved – what a brilliant bunch.

Whether you’re fretting over fares or chasing down a missing mitten, real customer service pros have a knack for making our problems float away.
Topping the table with triple wins is the Twin Cities’ Metro Transit! OC Bus’ support team had a truly infectious sunny outlook as they nudged up to second place. TriMet is right on their heels, completing the CX podium and taking triple bronzes back to Portland.
Now if all our winners tonight can take their seats, we have one more award to present.
Four times a year, we ask riders whether they would recommend their transit agency to friends or family on a scale of 1 to 10. The agencies with the highest ratio of top-rating riders rise to the top.
Who topped the charts and captured riders’ hearts to become this year’s most popular agency?

Congratulations OC Bus! Their flawless customer service, apt choice in app partner, and impeccably-appointed stops have secured the Most Popular Agency win for the second year in a row!
And a round of applause for our runners up: PVTA and Ride On (also returning for a second year!), as well as most improved GO Transit – the first Canadian agency to gain a commendation in this category.
Lower the curtains and cue the violins, that’s a wrap on the 2025 Riders Choice Awards. Thanks for joining us for another stellar year.

In 2026, we’ll keep doing what we do best: connecting transit agencies and their riders. Making sure agencies hear what riders need. Helping riders advocate for better service, better funding, and better public transit. And of course – making the best darn app in the biz.
