After 2 years of operation and just as Science Gateway passes the 800’000 visitor milestone, the centre is recognised by a nomination for the prestigious European Museum of the Year Award. 
 
The award is presented each year by the European Museum Forum under the auspices of the Council of Europe. It recognises  how a museum attracts audiences and satisfies its visitors with a unique atmosphere, imaginative interpretation and presentation, and a creative approach to education and social responsibility; how underlying values - democracy, human rights, tolerance and inter-cultural dialogue and sustainability – are realised in practice is also important.   
 
On the site of a working science lab, CERN Science Gateway offers visitors a unique connection to a place where science is happening. In addition to the exhibitions, labs, science shows and events, it’s a gateway to visits of the CERN site and a place to meet and exchange with working scientists and engineers who volunteer their time as guides.
 
Science Gateway aims to be accessible to a broad range of visitors, with different types of content and interaction to suit diverse interests and backgrounds, including accessible content for blind and visually impaired. In addition, the building and surrounding site have strong ecological credentials and also the contents reflect CERN’s international collaborations, with for example content presented in 5 languages.
 
Judging took place over the summer of 2025. Nominations were announced on 27th November 2025 and the overall winner will be announced in June 2026.
