At least five people were killed and 20 injured after a three-storey under-construction warehouse at Kolkata’s Taratala area collapsed on Wednesday.
West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari reached the accident site along with a few ministers from his Cabinet.
Adhikari said 18 people were rescued from the warehouse collapse site, while 12 to 15 people were still trapped under the debris.
“The building plan was sanctioned by Kolkata Municipal Corporationon (KMC) in January, 2026. Initially, we have found that a faulty building plan was sanctioned,” the chief minister said, adding the quantum of compensation for the deceased and the injured would be announced in the Assembly on Thursday.
The injured were being treated at Kolkata’s SSKM Hospital. “The Army, National Disaster Response Force, disaster management, and police are working,” Adhikari added.
