The Hindu will conduct a free health webinar on Saturday, May 23, 2026, on the topic ‘Heat and Health: What You Need to Know’. The webinar will be held from 11.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m.

The session will examine the growing public health risks linked to rising temperatures and prolonged heat exposure, which are becoming an increasing concern across regions. It will explore the impact of extreme heat on the human body, including dehydration, heat exhaustion, heatstroke, and the worsening of pre-existing medical conditions.

The discussion will also focus on common warning signs such as dizziness, excessive sweating, fatigue, confusion, and muscle cramps, and explain when symptoms require urgent medical attention.

The panellists will discuss practical ways to stay safe during periods of extreme heat, protect vulnerable groups including children, older adults, outdoor workers, and people with chronic illnesses, and reduce the risk of heat-related emergencies through preventive measures and timely care.

Expert panellists include Jaichitra Suresh, senior consultant physician and diabetologist, Soukya Clinic and Home Healthcare, who will discuss the health impact of extreme heat, common heat-related illnesses, warning signs that require medical attention, and practical ways individuals and families can stay safe during periods of high temperatures.

The panel will also feature Karthik Gunasekaran, professor, Department of General Medicine, Christian Medical College (CMC), Vellore. He will speak about the broader public health implications of rising temperatures, the medical complications associated with prolonged heat exposure, and the importance of awareness, preparedness, and timely intervention in preventing heat-related emergencies.

The session will be moderated by Geetha Srimathi, Senior Reporter, The Hindu.
