A four-year-old girl was sexually assaulted and killed at Nasrapur village in Pune district of Maharashtra. Police have arrested a 65-year-old man, and residents observed a complete bandh in protest on Saturday (May 2, 2026) after the body was found.

The incident came to light on Friday after the girl went missing in the afternoon. Her family searched for her and later examined CCTV footage from the area. The footage showed the accused leading the girl by hand towards a cattle shed, telling allegedly luring her by saying he would show her a calf.

The police said the girl was sexually assaulted inside the shed. The accused then killed her by hitting her with a stone and buried her body under a pile of cow dung. The family found the body in the shed. The girl had come to stay with her grandmother for the summer holidays.

Tight police vigil

After the body was found, villagers gathered at the Rajgad police station and blocked the Pune-Satara highway on Friday night. Shops and businesses in Nasrapur remained closed on Saturday as protests continued.

Senior police officer Sandeep Singh Gill reached the spot and talked to the protesters, following which the blockade was lifted. Additional police forces have been deployed in the area to maintain law and order.

The police have registered a case against the accused under charges of murder, rape, and under the provisions of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. A forensic team has visited and inspected the crime scene as part of the investigation.

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sushma Andhare raised questions about the State’s law and order situation. Local MLA Shankar Mandekar also visited Nasrapur and met senior police officials, reiterating the demand for strict action.

Rohit Pawar, a political leader from the region, visited the protest site and submitted a memorandum to the administration. He called for the case to be heard in a fast-track court and urged the immediate implementation of the Shakti Act. He also alleged that the accused had assaulted two or three other minor girls in the past.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed deep outrage over the incident. “It is highly reprehensible and tragic. The entire community is deeply shaken by this case.”

He stated that the government would ensure the case is tried in a fast-track court to guarantee that the accused receives the death penalty.
