Police on Friday announced the arrest of a duo from Tamil Nadu who allegedly stole two-wheelers from Bengaluru and attempted to sell them in their home state.
The accused have been identified as Ranjith and Thangam Mutthu, residents of a village near Vellore. The police have so far seized 10 two-wheelers from the accused. The thefts came to light during an investigation into a case pertaining to the theft of a two-wheeler at Ramachandrapura in Srirampura near north Bengaluru.
The complainant stated that on the night of April 14, he parked his two-wheeler in front of his house, and when he checked the next morning, unknown persons had stolen the vehicle.
Based on the complaint, the police reviewed CCTV footage in the vicinity and found a lead. After examining more than 200 CCTV clips, the police traced the accused to Tamil Nadu and arrested them.
During interrogation, the accused revealed that they had stolen 10 two-wheelers from different places across Bengaluru city. The accused told police that they came to the city, broke the locks of two-wheelers, and rode back to Tamil Nadu.
“They disclosed that the stolen two-wheelers had been parked near a factory in Sanjay Gandhi Nagar in Tamil Nadu, within the premises of a high school, and also near an under-construction building beside the highway at Madanur in Tamil Nadu,” a police officer said. Based on the information, the police seized all the two-wheelers.
