Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) Commissioner Ketan Garg on Friday directed officials to prepare a special action plan to prevent dumping of waste in open places, create awareness among residents and traders, and impose fines on violators.

During his field inspection, Mr. Garg reviewed sanitation works in Gollalapalem and other areas under Ward No. 61. He observed that several residents and traders were dumping waste on roads and into drains, and instructed officials to identify such violators and levy fines on them.

He also directed sanitation workers, CLAP vehicles, and loaders to discharge their duties responsibly and systematically on a pin-point basis according to scheduled timings. He noted that waste was being dumped on streets, in colonies, along roads, and in other open places.

Interacting with residents, the Commissioner enquired about the regular movement of garbage collection vehicles and the waste collection process. He said failure to ensure 100% daily waste collection was leading to an increase in Garbage Vulnerable Points (GVPs) across the city.

Keeping in view the upcoming monsoon season, Mr. Garg instructed the Chief Medical Officer to ensure regular removal of waste from major drains and canals in the city so that sewage water flows smoothly without obstruction.
