Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar has urged the Centre to approve a Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) connecting Bengaluru with Mysuru, Kanakapura, Tumakuru, Chikkaballapur and Kolar to strengthen regional connectivity.

The proposal was among several key metro and transport infrastructure projects for which Mr. Shivakumar sought early approval from the Union government. He submitted the proposals to Union Minister for Power and Housing and Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal Khattar, during a meeting in New Delhi on Wednesday (June 10).

Mr. Shivakumar has also sought approval for the Bengaluru Metro Phase IIIA project, a 37.804-km corridor from Sarjapur to Hebbal. The revised Detailed Project Report (DPR), estimated to cost ₹25,999 crore, was submitted to the Centre on April 29, 2026, after incorporating modifications suggested by the Union government.

In addition, Karnataka has requested approval for the revised cost of the Metro Phase II project. While the Centre had originally sanctioned the project in 2014 at an estimated cost of ₹26,405.14 crore, the revised estimate now stands at ₹40,425.02 crore.

The State has also sought permission for BMRCL to commence work on the 44.65-km double-decker elevated corridor proposed under Metro Phase III, a project estimated to cost ₹9,700 crore and to be fully funded by the Karnataka government.
