Demands for a comprehensive probe into allegations of irregularities and corruption in the Mananchira-Vellimadukkunnu road widening project are growing louder.

The Mananchira-Vellimadukkunnu Road Action Committee has submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan and the Public Works Minister P. K. Basheer, backing K. Jayanth MLA’s demand for a comprehensive investigation into the serious irregularities allegedly associated with the tendering and execution of the project.

The committee urged the government to take urgent steps to investigate and rectify the “widespread irregularities” in the implementation of the road project, which is being executed at a cost of nearly ₹500 crore, and to ensure its full and effective completion.

The committee also demanded a Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau probe into the award of the contract to an allegedly ineligible company. It sought an independent assessment of the work carried out so far by experts outside the Kerala Road Fund Board and called for the cancellation of the second-phase work awarded without inviting tenders. The committee further demanded that the work be entrusted to another contractor. The memorandum was submitted by Mananchira-Vellimadukkunnu Road Action Committee working president Mathew Kattikkana and general secretary M.P. Vasudevan.
