Heavy donwpour coupled with gusty winds resulted in uprooting of several trees and waterlogging at various junctions throwing life out of gear in Hubballi on Monday evening.

Although the downpour lasted about half an hour, it was the gusty winds that created havoc.

As uprooted trees, broken branches fell across the roads and downpour resulted in waterlogging, the city witnessed kilometre-long traffic jams on various roads.

The gusty winds also resulted in severing of cables and consequent to the uprooting of trees, power supply was shut down across the city only to resume late in the night.

At Unkal Cross, waterlogging resulted in vehicles lining up for kilometres on the flyover and also on the Hubballi-Dharwad Road.

Because of a tree that was uprooted near BVB College in Vidyanagar, vehicles were diverted to the BRTS Corridor.

As trees were uprooted and branches fell on the alternative routes also, traffic jams were reported in many places and it took nearly an hour for the police to clear the congestion.

Kittur Chennamma Circle where traffic is already in a mess because of the delayed flyover project, the situation worsened on Monday evening after the downpour.

A number of vehicles were also damaged as they were caught under falling trees. While two cars were damaged on Shirur Park Road, an authorickshaw was damaged in Old Hubballi.

While Dharwad also received rain on Monday, it was not as severe as witnessed in Hubballi.

On Sunday evening too, the twin cities witnessed downpur. Waterlogging was reported at important junctions and on Monday too, it continued.
