In the past one month, security forces have recovered ₹1.01 crore in cash and a large quantity of arms and ammunition, including AK-47 and SLR rifles from former Maoist hideouts or dumps in Narayanpur district of the Bastar region, the police said on Tuesday (May 12, 2026).

Of the ₹1.01 crore, the forces made a crucial recovery on Saturday (May 9, 2026) at Nelangur village near the Chhattisgarh-Maharashtra border in which ₹84 lakh in cash was recovered from a dump, Narayanpur district Superintendent of Police (SP) Robinson Guria said, adding that the search operation also led to the recovery of a couple of AK-47 rifles buried nearby.

“In another operation in north Bastar, we found ₹14 lakh cash. In all, we found ₹1 crore cash. The operations were undertaken based on information provided by some surrendered Naxals,” Mr. Guria said.

In the operations conducted in the last one month, forces — Narayanpur police with the District Reserve Guard (DRG), the Special Task Force (STF), the Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), and the Border Security Force (BSF) — have purportedly recovered several categories of weapons.

These include three AK-47 rifles, three SLR rifles, two .303 rifles, one .315 rifle, two 12-bore guns, two country-made pistols, and one air gun, along with five AK-47 magazines, 13 SLR magazines, one INSAS rifle magazine, two .303 rifle magazines, one .315 rifle magazine, 113 live AK-47 cartridges, 182 live SLR cartridges, 45 live .303 cartridges, 41 live .315 cartridges, 19 live 12-bore cartridges and 12 SMG cartridges. In 2025-26, a total of 270 weapons have been recovered in Narayanpur district, the SP added.

The purported recoveries also include 132 BGL shells, two BGL launchers, 14 BGL cartridges, eight electronic detonators, six bundles of cordex wire, around 5 kg of Sora explosive material, 3 kg of white powder, four sets of radio cells, two bundles of electric wire, six walkie-talkies, and other materials of daily use.

These operations are being conducted with the active cooperation of the villagers and a strong intelligence network, and action was taken by detecting the dumps hidden by the Maoists at various places, Inspector General of Police (Bastar Range) P. Sundarraj said.

The joint action has dealt a major blow to the logistics and arms supply capacity of the Maoists, Mr. Sundarraj said.
