Udupi Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer T.K. Swaroopa on Tuesday (June 23) said every eligible voter should participate in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls being taken up by the Election Commission of India (ECI). Booth Level Officers (BLOs) would visit households from June 30 to July 29 and enrol their names in the rolls.

Ms. Swaroopa was speaking at the inauguration of a training programme on SIR for the elected representatives, supervisors, polling booth officers and polling booth agents of Kundapur Assembly constituency in Udupi district. She said it was a constitutional duty to prepare a voter list under the Representation of the Peoples Act and in that regard, the SIR was being organised across the country.

She said the names in the 2025 voter list were being mapped and linked to the family lineages of voters in the 2002 voter list so that no eligible voters were deprived of voting.

During their visits to households, BLOs will give a duplicate of the pre-printed form. Voters must fill it completely, affix a current photograph, sign it and return one copy to the BLO. Ms. Swaroopa said the BLOs should take the SIR seriously and ensure that eligible voters were not left out from the rolls.

While electoral rolls were revised four times a year, in January, April, July and October, facilitating those completing 18 years of age to enrol, the SIR would facilitate preparation of a new roll, she said.

Lecturer and district master trainer Gangadhar said the preparatory work training processes would be done from June 20 to June 29. From June 30 to July 29, a house-to-house survey would be conducted through BLOs and forms would be collected and uploaded on the website. The process of rationalisation of polling stations would be held on July 29. While draft rolls would be published on August 5, objections could be filed till September 4 and the final rolls would be out on October 7.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Abid Gadyal, Assistant Commissioner S.R. Rashmi, Kundapur tahsildar Pradeep Kurdekar and others were present.
