A training program organised for the 2025 batch trainee IAS officers at Vidyut Soudha on Monday, AP - Transco Joint Managing Director G. Surya Sai Praveenchand said: “Andhra Pradesh (AP)’s power sector is playing a pivotal role in advancing India’s clean energy transition.”

Addressing the trainees, Mr. Praveenchand emphasised that reliable and quality power supply is fundamental to economic growth, implementation of welfare schemes, industrial development, enhancement of agricultural productivity and strengthening disaster management capabilities. He noted that electricity was not merely an infrastructure service but a critical enabler of inclusive and sustainable development.

Mr. Praveenchand stated that India has emerged as the world’s third largest electricity producing nation with an installed capacity exceeding 532 GW. It has already achieved over 50% non-fossil fuel-based installed capacity ahead of its climate action commitments. He pointed out that the State’s electricity demand was increasing rapidly.

The demand, is estimated at around 78,000 Million Units (MU) in FY 2025 – 26, and is projected to reach nearly 180,000 MU by 2035. The AP - Genco, AP - Transco, DISCOMs and New & Renewable Energy Development Corporation of AP were together managing nearly 21,400 MW of power capacity and serving more than 2.03 crore consumers.

While explaining the salient features of the AP Integrated Clean Energy and targets thereof, Mr. Praveenchand said the key challenges faced by the power sector include burgeoning demand, financial sustainability of utilities, renewable energy integration, cybersecurity, and enhancing climate resilience.

Trainee Assistant Collectors C. Sravan Kumar Reddy, Hariom Pandya, Kshitij Aditya Sharma, Namrata Agarwal, Pawan Teja AR, Priya, Suyash Kumar and Banna Venkatesh were present and senior officials of the power utilities were present.
