Appealing to the people to actively participate in the democratic process, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar on Sunday observed that every voter must become a vital player in strengthening democracy and described the present period as a “new beginning” for successful electoral management.

Speaking to reporters after having darshan at the Lord Varasiddhi Vinayaka Swamy temple at Kanipakam, near here, Mr. Gyanesh Kumar said the recent Assembly elections in various States had been conducted peacefully, reflecting the strength of India’s electoral system.

He further noted that he had offered prayers at Tirumala on Saturday and at the Srikalahasti temple earlier on Sunday before visiting the Sri Varasiddhi Vinayaka Swamy temple at Kanipakam.

Mr. Gyanesh Kumar, accompanied by his wife, was accorded a traditional welcome by the temple authorities and district officials on arrival. Special darshan arrangements were made for the couple, after which Vedic scholars rendered blessings and priests presented them with “teertha prasadam.”

Earlier, the Chief Election Commissioner arrived at the Kanipakam guest house, where he received a police guard of honour. District Collector Sumit Kumar, Superintendent of Police Tushar Dudi, temple Executive Officer Penchala Kishore, and other officials welcomed him. State Chief Electoral Officer Vivek Yadav was among the entourage.
