MLC Ivan D’Souza said here on Saturday that the Election Commission (EC) should come out with the reasons for not being able to complete the mapping of all voters under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral roll.
Addressing presspersons, he said that according to the EC, 15.98 lakh (88.56%) of the 18.05 lakh electorate from the eight Assembly constituencies in Dakshina Kannada have been mapped. It should announce specific reasons for not being able to map other voters.
The MLC said that the Congress will not allow “wrongful deletion and wrongful addition” of voters in the roll.
Mr. D’Souza said that the Commission should also clarify how it will deal with double entry of names in the voters’ list in different States. For example, he said, a voter of Kerala or a voter of Gujarat may have his or her name entered in the electoral rolls both in Karnataka and those States. The same is possible in the case of many outside State students studying in the coastal belt.
The MLC accused the BJP of indulging in “vote chori and seat chori” in the country.
He said that the Congress is cooperating with the Commission during the SIR and it is for proper SIR.
