Collector A. Siri stated that the Pre-Monsoon Dry Sowing (PMDS) method of farming serves as a boon for rain-fed agriculture, allowing farmers to achieve higher profits through natural farming practices.

Ms. Siri, along with Panyam MLA Gouru Charitha Reddy, on Wednesday conducted field inspection of crops being cultivated using PMDS method at Chinnatekur village in Kallur mandal. They said that the government was actively promoting PMDS method to enable farmers to effectively utilise the pre-monsoon rains and added that the method is immensely beneficial for farmers in rain-fed regions.

The Collector and MLA visited the field of Anjaneyulu, a farmer, and observed the cultivation process being carried out using the PMDS method. The Collector urged Anjaneyulu to explain to other farmers the profits he had gained through this method and to ensure that more farmers adopt PMDS cultivation. “This method increases the microbial population in the soil, thereby enhancing land fertility without the need for chemical fertilizers,” she said.

Ms. Siri called upon other farmers to enhance their awareness regarding innovative techniques like PMDS alongside traditional methods and to initiate steps towards adopting capital-free natural farming.

The Collector also inspected jasmine crop cultivated by another farmer, Rameswaramma, and directed the Horticulture Department officials to take steps to increase the area under jasmine cultivation in the district.

Ms. Siri stated that the district administration had set a target of bringing 1,00,000 acres under cultivation by extensively promoting the PMDS method, and urged the officials to expedite the completion of any pending targets.

Meanwhile, both the Collector and MLA also sowed seeds on the farm belonging to a farmer named Mohan.
