Over 2.4 lakh students received allotments after the Directorate of General Education published the second allotment list in the main phase of Plus One higher secondary single-window admissions on Sunday.

According to official statistics, 4,44,772 students applied for Plus One admission this year, including 43,735 applicants seeking admission outside their home districts. Against 3,17,902 available seats, 2,40,568 students secured allotments in the second phase, leaving 77,334 vacancies across the State.

As many as 2,04,204 students await allotment even after the second round. Of these, 1,20,003 students – nearly 59% of the Statewide total – belong to the six northern districts, from Kasaragod to Palakkad. The number of students awaiting seats far exceeds the available vacancies in these districts.

Malappuram worst hit

Malappuram continues to be the district under the biggest strain, with 43,005 students remaining without admission. With the district having only 18,107 vacancies, the demand-supply gap appears stark. Kozhikode and Palakkad too face a similar issue. Kozhikode has 23,742 students awaiting allotment, while only 8,274 seats remain vacant. The scenario in Palakkad remains equally concerning, with 22,078 students seeking admission against 5,405 vacancies.

In Kannur, there are 16,961 students awaiting allotment against 8,480 vacancies, while as many as 9,323 students seek allotment in Kasaragod where only 4,925 seats remain vacant. A total of 4,894 students await allotment in Wayanad, where there are 2,094 vacancies.

The first allotment had covered 2,46,638 students, of whom 2,20,465 joined their allotted schools. Among them, 96,721 took temporary admission, while 1,23,744 students secured permanent admission by paying fees.

Despite being allotted seats, 24,978 students could not join schools within the stipulated time due to various factors. Moreover, 1,195 allotments were cancelled owing to errors in applications. As a result, 26,173 seats which became available were included in the second allotment process, along with the 71,264 vacancies that remained after the first allotment.

Students who have received allotments can secure admission from 10 a.m. on Monday to 5 p.m. on Tuesday. Students who received the first option in the allotment round should pay the fees and take permanent admission. Those who fail to take at least a temporary admission despite getting allotment will not be considered for future allotments.
