Bharathiar University has called for applications for its five programmes at its PG and Research Centre in Erode for 2026-27, anticipating sufficient response from students for sustaining its functioning.

The BU has instructed candidates to apply through the link: https://fms.b-u.ac.in/pg-centre-admission till May 31.

Continuance of the PG Centre hinges on robust admissions as the expenditure has been far exceeding revenue, R. Rajavel, Registrar, said.

Besides rent, BU has been meeting the expenditure of the salaries of four assistants, two professors, three guest lecturers on consolidated pay, and five non-teaching staff.

The BU had contemplated closing the Centre last year, but sustained it after facing a backlash.

Admission of less than 200 students for the six programmes: M.A. English and Tamil, M.Sc. Mathematics, M.Sc. Computer Science, MBA and MCA, does not augur well for the sustenance of the Centre, Prof. Rajavel pointed out.

The BU had also considered the option of shifting the Centre from the campus of a private college in Perundurai to Chikkiah Government Arts College at Veerappanchathram in Erode City, to save on rent and in consideration of locational advantage for attracting more number of students. The PG Centre was started through a government order issued in 2012-13.

In the event of closure, the manpower at the Centre would be absorbed by the university at its main campus, the Registrar said.
