District Collector T. Nishanthi conducted a surprise inspection of the weekly shandy (market) in Hukumpeta mandal in Alluri Sitharama Raju district on Saturday (June 27, 2026). She checked various stalls in the market and examined the quality of essential commodities and other goods being sold.
During the inspection, Ms. Nishanthi verified the prices, quality, expiry dates and Maximum Retail Price (MRP) labels on packaged commodities. Stressing the need for regular inspections to protect consumers, the Collector instructed the officials to ensure that traders do not overcharge customers or indulge in unfair trade practices.
Reviewing the sale of agricultural seeds in the weekly market, the Collector spoke to the Agriculture Officer and questioned why some farmers were purchasing seeds from private sellers, even though the government was supplying quality seeds at subsidised prices.
She also directed the Agriculture Department officials to conduct an inquiry into the sale of seeds by private vendors and to take strict action if fake, substandard, or unauthorised seeds were found to be sold.
