Home Minister Priyank Kharge on Monday directed officials of the Karnataka State Police Housing and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (KSPH&IDCL) to ensure that residential and office buildings being constructed for the police and other departments are completed within the stipulated timeframe without compromising on quality.

Chairing a progress review meeting of the KSPH&IDCL, the Minister also instructed officials to launch Information, Education and Communication (IEC) programmes to help the children of departmental staff prepare for competitive examinations. He said the required guidance, training and facilities should be provided to support their success in various competitive tests.

Under the ₹2,000-crore Police Gruha-2025 housing scheme aimed at improving residential facilities for police personnel, a total of 10,034 housing units have been sanctioned. Of these, 3,496 units have been completed, while construction of another 2,030 units is under way, according to a release.

Construction of the state-of-the-art Central Command Centre in Bengaluru has reached the final stage and is expected to be inaugurated soon. In addition, new police stations, District Police Office (DPO) buildings and Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) facilities are being constructed across various districts.

The corporation is also executing infrastructure projects for several other departments, including the Prison Department. Major projects include a high-security prison in Shivamogga and a central prison in Devanahalli. Construction works for the Fire and Emergency Services Department, as well as hostels for Backward Classes and Minority Welfare Departments, are also being carried out successfully, the release added.

Mr. Kharge noted that the large-scale police housing initiative in Karnataka owes much to the efforts of former Home Minister Mallikarjun Kharge. Currently, about 41.43 per cent of the total police housing stock in the State has been built under schemes initiated during his tenure.

Director General and Inspector General of Police M.A. Saleem, KSPH&IDCL Chairman and Managing Director Arun Chakravarthy (IPS), and other senior officials attended the meeting.
