Popular Nagaradhana temple in the State, the Kukke Sri Subrahmanya temple in Subrahmanya of Dakshina Kannada district has registered a revenue of ₹167.89 crore during 2025-26, the highest so far. The previous year, the temple registered a revenue of ₹155.95 crore.

With constant increase in revenues, the temple has remained the richest among Muzrai temples in Karnataka, said executive officer Aravinda Ayyappa Suthagundi.

Of the ₹167.89 crore revenue, the temple administration has spent ₹85.2 crore on various heads during the year. He added that the temple continues to remain the richest in the State for the 15th consecutive year.

Over the years, the temple has become the most sought-after among devotees. Footfall has increased in the temple town even during monsoon in the recent years, unlike earlier when the town wore a deserted look during the season.

Seva income

People visit the temple to perform three popular sevas, Sarpa Samskara, Naga Pratishthe and Ashlesha Bali, among others. From sevas alone, the temple registered more than one-third of its annual revenue, that is ₹64.08 crore during 2025-26.

Income from interest on investments stood at ₹49.11 crore. The next highest revenue comes to the temple in the form of kanike (offerings), that is around ₹30.54 crore. Devotees offer kanike through receipts, e-hundi, and conventional hundis.

The temple also generated ₹9.14 crore revenue from Anna Santarpane Nidhi, ₹6.93 crore from Choultries, and ₹2.53 crore from contracts. From shops and establishments, it earned rents of ₹94.46 lakh.

The revenue was ₹56.24 crore in 2011-12 and continued to increase over the years. During 2018-19, it decreased to ₹92.09 crore, compared to the 2017-18 figure of ₹95.92 crore. During the pamdemic, the revenue was ₹68.94 crore in 2020-21 and ₹72.73 crore in 2021-22 as against ₹98.92 crore of 2019-20.

From 2022-23 onwards, the revenues crossed ₹100 crore mark.
