Kanniyakumari District Collector R. Alagumeena inspected development works at Thuckalay and Kurunthancode unions on Thursday.
Under the Rural Development and Panchayat Raj department several development works are under way across Kanniyakumari district.
Ms. Alagumeena inspected the progress of works at various places, including a canal widening project Vellichanthai panchayat. The work is being executed by the workers under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS).
The Collector examined the attendance registrar of the workers and interacted with the workers to understand their grievances.
She also inspected canal restoration work at Poolankulam branch canal in Nullivilai village panchayat.
During the visit, she checked the shed facilities provided to MGNREGS workers, their drinking water facilities and first aid kits. She instructed the officials concerned to provide training to workers, with the help of staff from nearby Primary Health Centres (PHCs), on administering first aid.
She further directed the officials to give priority in employment to people from economically weaker sections, widows and differently abled persons. The Collector also urged them to expedite the completion of works.
District Rural Development Agency project director Balasubramaniam and other officials were present.
