Those who awaited some drama on Marine Drive in Kochi on Sunday during a proposed meeting of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), a digital political movement, were in for a disappointment as the gathering did not take place.

Though anticipation ran high around the bustling hangout spot in the afternoon following an announcement through social media about a meetup at 3 p.m., the excitement went down by 4 p.m. after it became clear that the activists will not turn up.

Speculation about the gathering was triggered by a couple of announcements in a Telegram channel. It is unclear who were behind the channel.

A message circulated on social media contained the “agenda” of the meeting. It said that the gathering was aimed at getting familiar with each other and discussing the legal registration of the group. It also said that the meeting aimed at “finding ways to work for the good of society, and bringing before the law the injustices and atrocities in society.”

The message had urged those interested in attending the gathering to share their details, including address, phone number and age. Posters announcing the meetup as the first such gathering of the CJP in south India were also shared on social media.

The City police said they received information that the meeting was called off. “It is learnt that they have decided to gain necessary permission from the police before going ahead with such a meet,” a City police officer said. The officer said there were multiple groups in the name of the CJP in the State and it was not yet clear if those who planned the meeting on Marine Drive were serious about it or not.

The CJP is a digital political movement founded on May 16, 2026 by Abhijeet Dipke, a former political strategist of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). The platform was started in response to Chief Justice of India Surya Kant’s comment describing young, unemployed Indians as “cockroaches.” Later, he issued a clarification saying that the media “misquoted” him.
