Traffic police in Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Malkajgiri booked more than 950 drunk driving cases during special enforcement drives conducted over the weekend as part of intensified road safety measures.

The Hyderabad Traffic Police conducted a two-day special drive on May 22 and 23 and caught 438 motorists driving under the influence of alcohol. Cyberabad Traffic Police also conducted weekend special drunk driving checks and booked 294 offenders. The Malkajgiri Traffic Police booked 227 drunk driving cases during a special drive conducted between May 17 and 23.

During the same period, 293 drunk driving cases were disposed of by courts in Malkajgiri. Of these, 11 offenders were sentenced to jail along with a fine, two were awarded fine and social service, while 280 offenders were fined.

Cyberabad courts disposed of 156 drunk driving cases between May 18 and 23. Ten offenders were sentenced to jail along with a fine, one offender was awarded fine and social service, while 145 offenders were fined. Police in all three commissionerates said there would be zero tolerance towards drunk driving violations
