A 40-year-old man was arrested by the Erode South police on charges of verbally abusing a woman, threatening her family and demanding repayment of an alleged loan amount carrying exorbitant interest.
The accused, Krishnakumar of Veerappanchatiram, was arrested and remanded in judicial custody on Tuesday night (June 16, 2026) following a complaint lodged by Suguna, 39, of Surampatti.
According to the police, the complainant had borrowed small sums ranging from ₹5,000 to ₹10,000 from the accused since 2024 for business and family expenses. The woman further alleged that on June 16, Krishnakumar came to her residence at Old Kongu School Compound in Surampatti, abused her in a public place and threatened to kill her family if she failed to pay the amount within two months.
