The cybercrime wing of the Cyberabad Police arrested a man accused of cheating women through fake profiles created on multiple matrimonial platforms.

The accused was identified as Manda Venkata Kameshu, a resident of Undrajavaram in West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh. According to the police, he created fake profiles on matrimonial applications including Telugu Matrimony, Reddy Matrimony, Brahmin Matrimony and Kamma Matrimony by posing as a wealthy and well-settled individual using false identities.

Police said the accused targeted women seeking matrimonial alliances and gained their trust through WhatsApp calls, Instagram chats and prolonged conversations. He allegedly persuaded victims to transfer money and share sensitive financial details, including credit card information, OTPs and bank credentials, on various false pretexts.

Investigators said the cheated money was spent on online betting and casinos in Goa. The accused was found to be involved in nearly 20 criminal cases across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh related to cheating and matrimonial fraud.

Police advised citizens to exercise caution while interacting with unknown individuals on matrimonial and social media platforms and urged people not to rely solely on photographs, job claims or displays of wealth online while considering matrimonial alliances. Officials also warned against sharing OTPs, bank details or other financial information with unknown persons.

Citizens have been asked to report cyber offences through the nearest cybercrime police station or the 1930 cybercrime helpline.
