A farmer lost ₹4 lakh of cash after unidentified thieves allegedly stole the money from his scooter while he was visiting a bank in Parappana Agrahara on Saturday (May 16) afternoon.
The victim, identified as 49-year-old R. Srinivas, a resident of Doddatogur in Electronics City Phase-1, had reportedly brought the cash from his house to deposit it in a bank account.
According to the police, Srinivas, along with his younger brother Manjunath, left home around 11 a.m. the same day with the cash. They first visited a gold loan firm to get back their mother’s necklace, which Srinivas had earlier pledged. The staff allegedly advised them to make the payment online instead of depositing cash.
Later, around noon, they visited a bank in Parappana Agrahara to inquire about depositing the money. Srinivas parked the scooter outside the bank and went inside to make enquiries. On returning, he found the scooter dickey open and the cash missing.
Suspecting theft, the complainant checked CCTV footage from cameras installed at a nearby building. The footage allegedly showed two unidentified men opening the scooter seat around 12.10 p.m. and stealing the cash before fleeing. Based on the complaint, the Parappana Agrahara police registered a case against unidentified persons for theft and launched an investigation.
