Chittoor district police on Wednesday arrested two inter-State operatives reportedly involved in ganja trafficking and seized 39.6 kg of the contraband, an SUV, mobile phones, and fake registration number plates.

The accused were identified as Dikshit Sukrit (22) of Malkangiri district and Muralidhar Buradi (33) of Koraput district in Odisha. Acting on reliable information, a police team conducted vehicle checks near Varigapalli Junction in Yadamari mandal on the outskirts of Chittoor and intercepted an SUV on its way to Bengaluru.

During inspection, the police teams seized ganja stocks concealed in specially fabricated secret compartments inside the vehicle. The contraband had allegedly been purchased in Odisha and was being transported through Andhra Pradesh for delivery in Karnataka, the police said.

Deputy Superintendent of Police J. Venkatanarayana told the media that the seized ganja was estimated at ₹11.88 lakh, while the confiscated SUV is valued at around ₹5 lakh.

The police registered a case under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, and launched further investigation, besides forming a special team to track down other members of the gang.
