The Tamil Nadu Cauvery Farmers Protection Association has urged the State government to discuss and deliberate the conditions/situation with farmers, weather experts, and other stakeholders before arriving at the decision to lift the shutters of Stanley Reservoir in Mettur for irrigation purposes.

In a statement on Sunday, association secretary Sundara Vimalanathan urged the Tamil Nadu government to consider the facts such as existing storage, meteorological predictions, and the suggestions and requirements of delta farmers before concluding whether to lift the Mettur dam shutters on the scheduled date of June 12 or on a suitable date.
