Five persons were arrested by Kanagal police in Nalgonda for possessing ganja worth around ₹1 lakh.
The accused were identified as Boddu Chandu and Bommaragoni Anji alias Niranjan, both aged 19, Jilla Chandu and Chada Kranthikumar, both aged 23, and Kanugu Sairam, 24. A case was registered at Kanagal police station under Sections 8(c) read with 20(b)(ii)(B) and 29 of the NDPS Act and Section 25 of the Arms Act.
According to the police, acting on credible information received on May 14 at around 3.30 p.m. that five persons were selling ganja, police teams conducted a raid and apprehended the accused.
During the operation, officers seized 2.2 kg of marijuana, three mobile phones and the motorcycle bearing registration number TS 05 FC 3372.
During interrogation, the accused allegedly confessed to procuring ganja from a woman identified as “Manni” from Dhoolpet in Hyderabad over the past three months for consumption and sale.
Police said a dedicated ganja control room has been set up at the district police office to receive information related to narcotics activity, adding that informants’ identities would be kept confidential.
