People living in huts will be given first priority under the second phase of Telangana Government’s Indiramma Indlu (Housing) Scheme, to make the State free of huts.

Under Phase I, those with land were provided a financial assistance of ₹5 lakh towards construction of a house.

Revenue and Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy said that those living in huts, who did not apply for a house earlier, under the Praja Palana drive or other programmes, can submit an application to the Mandal Parishad Development Officer (MPDO).

At a video conference held with Housing Department officials on on Wednesday, the Minister gave instructions pertaining to the financial support for completion of construction of houses granted under various schemes, ₹2 lakh assistance under roof replacement scheme, Indiramma Housing Scheme phase-II and other subjects.

Officials were directed to consider other applications only after granting houses to people living in huts. A survey would be conducted to identify people in this category. Approximately 75,000 people submitted applications during the Praja Palana drive informing that they live in huts. Details in their applications would be verified at ground level to identify genuine beneficiaries. MPDOs were directed to submit a list to in-charge Ministers concerned for approval.

2,000 houses per constituency

The government has decided to allot 2.5 lakh houses under Phase-II, with 2,000 houses each for 119 Assembly constituencies. The Minister said that preparations have to be made towards this and transparency has to be maintained in selection of beneficiaries.

Besides, under Phase-II, families living under stone slabs, tarpaulin sheets, metal roofs or other unsafe roofs despite walls and foundations being strong, would be provided with financial assistance of ₹2 lakh towards construction of RCC roof, said the Minister. This would be implemented for 500 houses in each of the Assembly constituencies, with a total of 50,000 houses to be selected under this scheme.

The Minister said that incomplete construction of houses under Indiramma or other schemes can be included under the roof upgradation scheme. Field-level inspection has to be conducted afresh to identify such houses.
