Four held for creating nuisance with SUV on Avinashi Road
2026-05-17 · via The Hindu: Latest News today from India and the World, Breaking news, Top Headlines and Trending News Videos.

The Peelamedu police have arrested four persons and booked a few others for causing nuisance to the public, with an SUV, in front of a restaurant on Avinashi Road near airport junction early Saturday morning (May 16, 2026).

The police said that Sandeep, Santhosh, Thejo, Aravindhan, Tamil, Logesh and a few others, from Coimbatore, Salem and Tiruppur districts, were involved in the incident. Sandeep, Thejo, Aravindan and Logesh were arrested, they said.

According to the police, a video in which a group of men were seen dancing, holding on to an SUV bearing registration number TN 66 AM 7999, came to their attention on Saturday. The video showed the SUV being manoeuvred in a rash and negligent manner, with the person at the wheel applying sudden brakes intermittently. A video of them creating nuisance on the arterial Avinashi Road was widely circulated on social media.

Sub-Inspector Arulperumal attached to the Peelamedu police station visited the spot and examined visuals of surveillance cameras. Videos showed nine men were involved in the acts, which took place between 1 a.m. and 1.20 a.m. on Saturday.

The police registered a case against them under Sections 281 (rash driving or riding on a public way), 125 (act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 292 (punishment for public nuisance) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The police also seized the SUV.
