Ahead of reopening of schools for the academic year 2026-2027, the school education department has intensified the dispatch of textbooks to government, aided and partially aided schools in Thoothukudi and Kanniyakumari districts.

The Thoothukudi district comprises two educational districts: Thoothukudi and Kovilpatti. According to the latest data from the Thoothukudi school education department, the total number of schools in the district stands at 221, which includes only government, aided and partially aided schools.

These schools currently have a student strength of 1,03,196. Tamil Nadu Textbook and Educational Services Corporation (TNTESC) have dispatched books to the respective stock points in each educational district.

In Thoothukudi educational district, textbooks for higher secondary classes were stored at St Mary’s Boys Higher Secondary School ,while textbooks for the classes between VI and X were stored at the government school in Mudivaithannendhal.

In the Kovilpatti educational district the textbooks for the academic year 2026-2027 were stored at VOC Boys Higher Secondary School in Kovilpatti.

Thoothukudi Chief Educational Officer (CEO) R. Sangeetha Chinna Rani said, “In the Thoothukudi educational district dispatch of textbooks for class XI and XII is being completed today ( referring to May 15) and the class VI to X textbooks will be dispatched from next week.”

She added that in Kovilpatti division, the dispatch for higher secondary is underway and for middle and high school the process will begin next week.

Ms. Rani noted that the department aims to complete the dispatch process by May 28th and works are progressing at a brisk pace.

She further added that all the textbooks have been received for the district, except 26 class XI homescience textbooks for Kovilpatti educational district.

An official source from Kanniyakumari district school education department said that the textbooks were stored at Kavimani Desika Vinayakam Higher Secondary School in Kottar for Nagercoil educational district and L.M.S Girls Higher Secondary School in Marthandam and Government Higher Secondary School in Nattalam for Marthandam educational district.

He added that the dispatch is currently under way and would be completed by May 25.
