Dravidian University Vice-Chancellor L.C. Mallaiah unveiled an ambitious action plan on Saturday to transform the university into a multidisciplinary, employment-driven campus, focusing on academic expansion, infrastructure development, and research.

Addressing a press conference here, the Vice-Chancellor said that the university had constituted an Academic Restructuring and Development Committee comprising eminent academicians, whose recommendations had been approved by the Academic Senate, Finance Committee, and Executive Council. “The roadmap has been submitted to the State government for financial concurrence,” Mr. Mallaiah said.

Mr. Mallaiah said that the university had submitted proposals worth nearly ₹364 crore for academic and infrastructure development and was pursuing sanction of an initial ₹200 crore from the State government. “Plans also include a 500-kW solar power project, a rock garden, indoor and outdoor stadiums, a central instrumentation laboratory, and an NTR Centre for Performing Arts and Culture,” he said.

“Our priority is to increase student enrolment from 1,600 to 3,000 by expanding academic programmes, strengthening infrastructure, and introducing CUET-based admissions from the 2027-28 academic year to attract students from across the partner States of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Keralam,” Mr. Mallaiah said.

Mr. Mallaiah said that the Dravidian University has embarked on introducing new schools of Law, Pharmacy, Nursing, and Management, besides launching programmes in Microbiology, Botany, Zoology, Physics, Economics, Sociology, and Social Work and Rural Development. Three new engineering branches — Civil, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, and Electronics and Communication Engineering — will also be introduced from the 2027-28 academic year after the required infrastructure is ready,” he said.

“We will also upgrade the four-year honours degree programmes into five-year integrated master’s programmes in line with the National Education Policy (NEP). New MBA programmes in Healthcare and Hospital Management and Digital Marketing, along with a one-year diploma in Stone Artifacts, are also planned to enhance students’ employability,” the Vice-Chancellor said.
