The Jharkhand unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday (June 17, 2026) questioned the State’s law and order situation after two unidentified persons allegedly hurled petrol bombs at the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) office in Ranchi’s Niwaranpur area in the early hours of Wednesday (June 17, 2026). BJP leaders described the incident as tragic and unfortunate. BJP leader and Union Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth described the incident as an attack on a mother. Several leaders, including Jharkhand BJP president Aditya Sahu and Leader of the Opposition Babulal Marandi, visited the Sangh office to take stock of the situation. Mr. Seth said the incident was not a minor one and that it was important to uncover the entire conspiracy behind it. “Police must find out the motive and intention behind the attack on the RSS office. This is not an ordinary incident, it is an attack on our mother. In the CCTV footage it is clearly visible that twice they came with petrol bombs to attack it.” Mr. Sahu, on the other hand, described it as a heinous crime and said the incident showed that the morale of criminals in the State was high. “The incident took place right under the administration’s nose in the state capital - targeting the office of the Sangh, which is a centre of faith for millions and dedicated to national service - demonstrates that criminals have no fear of the police and are effectively running a parallel government,” Mr. Sahu alleged. He asked how common people could remain safe if the office of such a major social organisation was not secure. Mr. Sahu said that targeting the office of an organisation dedicated for decades to nation-building, social harmony, service, and the inculcation of values was an attack not merely on an institution, but on the values of positive social change and national consciousness. “There is no place for violence, fear, or anarchy in India’s democratic traditions. Any attempt to intimidate or deter forces committed to the path of national interest, social harmony, and public service will never succeed,” Mr. Sahu said. He demanded that the State government and the police ensure the arrest of those involved within 24 hours, take strict action against them, and expose the entire conspiracy behind the incident. He also warned of launching an agitation if the police failed to arrest those responsible for the attack. Mr. Marandi described the incident as extremely serious and concerning. He said that an attack on the office of an ideological organisation such as the RSS posed a serious challenge to law and order. Calling it a major incident, Mr. Marandi said, “There is a need for a fair and swift investigation to uncover the full details and the motive behind the attack. Such acts cannot be tolerated under any circumstances.” He demanded a permanent police outpost near the Sangh office to strengthen security arrangements and insisted that measures be taken to ensure such incidents do not recur. According to the police, two persons threw bottles filled with petrol into the RSS office late on Tuesday night. The incident was captured on CCTV cameras. No one was injured. When contacted by The Hindu, Ranchi Superintendent of Police (City) Paras Rana declined to share details about any arrests made so far, saying that the police were investigating the case and could not disclose further information at present. He added that any development in the case would be shared through the appropriate channel. A restaurant located near the RSS office is being looked at as a possible reason behind the altercation, as RSS office-bearers had reportedly complained a few days earlier about garbage being scattered by the restaurant. However, the police have not officially confirmed any motive behind the incident.
