Two women die following harassment in west Delhi
Shrimansi Kaushik · 2026-06-26 · via The Hindu: Latest News today from India and the World, Breaking news, Top Headlines and Trending News Videos.

Two women died in separate incidents in West Delhi, allegedly following harassment by their husbands and in-laws, the police said on Thursday.

In the first case, the police registered a case against a man after his 26-year-old wife died by suicide in Nangloi Extension. An FIR was registered under Sections 85 (cruelty) and 108 (abetment to suicide) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and the husband, Rohit, was detained.

The police said they received information on June 23 at 11.09 a.m. that the woman had been admitted to SGM Hospital. “The enquiry revealed that the death occurred due to suicidal hanging. As the death took place within seven years of marriage, the SDM was informed to conduct inquest proceedings,” the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer) said.

The woman’s mother, in her statement recorded by the tehsildar of Mundka, alleged that her son-in-law used to assault her daughter under the influence of alcohol.

The police said no suicide note was recovered, but the woman had recorded two videos before her death alleging harassment by her husband and in-laws. In one of the videos, she is seen asking her parents to take care of her infant daughter and not leave her with her husband.

In another incident in Khyala, a 24-year-old woman was found dead in her rented accommodation on June 24. A case of dowry death and cruelty has been registered under Sections 80 (dowry death), 85 and 3(5) (joint criminal liability) of the BNS against her husband and in-laws.

The police said a ligature mark was found on her neck, and a ‘chunni’ was recovered from the room. As the woman had been married for three years, the SDM was informed and inquest proceedings were conducted. Her family has alleged harassment by her in-laws.
