West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Tuesday (June 23, 2026) came down heavily on the Trinamool Congress accusing the party of indulging in massive corruption and said that his government will bring in a law to auction properties of those involved in corruption in the ongoing session of State Assembly.

“Many people are thinking that they will remain in prison for two months and after that they will get bail. They should remember, this time we will confiscate and auction their property. We will bring a Bill on the last day of assembly to auction properties of those involved in corruption,” the Chief Minister said.

Taking a dig at Trinamool Congress general secretary Abhishek Banerjee, who has a residence on Harish Chatterjee Street, “I will make arrangements to accommodate the people living under the flyover in Kolkata in the palaces of Harish Chatterjee Street”.

The Chief Minister, who was speaking on the Governor’s address in the State Assembly, alleged that during the previous government’s tenure, ₹324 crore were given to FICCI in an irregular manner at a trade conference.

“During BGBS, the government gave ₹324.73 crore to FICCI (Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry). Will you see the signature of the former Chief Minister? This is just the tip of the iceberg!” Mr. Adhikari said, highlighting documents in the State assembly.

The Chief Minister said that a Commission has been set up under former Calcutta High Court judge Biswajit Basu and member secretary, IPS K Jayaraman.

“All the thefts they have committed, MGNREGA theft, housing theft, Jal Jeevan Mission theft, Laxmi Bhandar theft - all the thefts they have committed, this Commission will file a complaint and they will have to go to their homes,” he said.

The Chief Minister said that after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) came to power about 10,000 Bangladeshi nationals have left the State and 1,800 are kept in holding centres of the State government across 12 districts. Mr. Adhikari said while the former Chief Minister used to target the Border Security Force (BSF), whereas his government has allocated 142.79 acres of land to the BSF for the construction of the fence on the border.

During much of his 45-minute speech, the Chief Minister spoke about how the previous regime had targeted him. Mr. Adhikari said that he was suspended from the State Assembly on five occasions and was kept out of the House for 11 months. The Chief Minister said that there were over a hundred police cases filed against him and even after cases being quashed by courts, he had to give details of 35 cases in his election affidavit.

During the Chief Minister’s address, the MLAs of Trinamool Congress led by Ritabrata Banerjee staged a walkout. Mr. Banerjee had raised the issue of renaming Suhrawardy Avenue in Kolkata in the name of Gopal Mukherjee.

The Chief Minister quipped at the situation in Trinamool Congress where one group of legislators led by Ritabrata Banerjee staged a walkout, while others who are Mamata Banerjee loyalists remained on their seats. Mr. Adhikari asked the Trinamool leaders to set their house in order and said that Trinamool will never recover from the split.
