Making a strong appeal to political parties to facilitate the passage of the amendments to the Women’s Reservation Act and the Delimitation Bill, 2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi assured the Lok Sabha on Thursday (April 16, 2026) that the proportionality of seat distribution between States will be maintained.

Addressing the Lok Sabha during the debate on the Bills, Prime Minister Modi said: “If you want me to use the ‘guarantee’, then I give you my guarantee, if you want me to use the word ‘promise’ I can use the word ‘promise’, or if you have any word in Tamil that conveys this, I am willing to say it as well. No injustice will be done to any State – from east to west, and north to south.”
