Three members of a family were killed in a road accident near Sivagiri around Monday midnight.
According to police, Velusamy, 51, from Seithur in Virudhunagar district had gone in a car to Sivagiri, along with his grandchildren Keerthi, 10, and Harish Kailash, 7, neighbour Vasanth, 23, and his relative Muniyandi, 40, to drop Mr. Muniyandi at his home after attending a function.
When the vehicle was going near Sivagiri, Velusamy, who was behind the wheel, reportedly lost control of the vehicle that hit a roadside tree and veered into a nearby agricultural field. The vehicle was severely damaged in the impact.
With no immediate help in the vicinity, Velusamy and his grandchildren died on the spot. Mr. Muniyandi and Mr. Vasanth sustained serious injuries.
On receiving the information, Sivagiri police rushed to the spot, recovered the bodies of the deceased and sent them for postmortem to Sivagiri Government Hospital.
Mr. Muniyandi has been admitted to Tenkasi Government Hospital and Mr. Vasanth to a private hospital in Rajapalayam.
Sivagiri police have registered a case and are investigating.
