A 21-year-old youth died after a house roof collapsed here on Monday (June 15, 2026).

According to the police, Venkatesh (21), a resident of Palapatti near Paramathi Velur, was a construction worker. On Monday, he along with his relative Sathish (25) was engaged in demolishing an old house at Ganesapuram in Namakkal. At that time, the roof collapsed, and Venkatesh, who was stuck in the debris, died on the spot. Sathish’s leg was severely damaged and was admitted to Namakkal Government Hospital.

On Tuesday (June 16, 2026), relatives of the duo staged a road blockade at the Namakkal Collectorate demanding compensation. The Namakkal police held talks with the protesters and assure them that the police will look into their demands. Based on the assurance, they dispersed from the spot.
