After weeks of intense heat, parts of the district, particularly the hill regions of Kadambur and Thalavadi, received widespread rainfall over the past two days, bringing much-needed relief to residents and farmers.

The district had been witnessing a sharp rise in temperatures in recent weeks, causing considerable discomfort to the public. The average temperature ranged between 39°C and 40.5°C in most parts of the district, leading to hardship for people. The impact was also severe in the forested hill areas of Kadambur, Thalavadi, Dhimbam and Hasanur.

According to the Meteorological Department, summer showers had been forecast for the district. In line with this, widespread rain was recorded in the Sathyamangalam and Kadambur forest areas.

On Tuesday (May 5, 2026), several places in the two hill regions received rainfall for about 45 minutes. The showers led to a drop in temperature, creating a cooler atmosphere. Water stagnation was reported in parts of agricultural fields. Farmers, who had been grappling with drought-like conditions due to the prolonged summer heat, expressed relief over the rainfall. Residents in the Kadambur hills said the rainfall would aid agricultural activities and help revive vegetation in forest areas, thereby easing the shortage of fodder and drinking water for wildlife.

In the city, the installation of green shade nets at major traffic junctions is under way as a temporary relief measure for motorists waiting at signals. Installation of nets was completed at Surampatti Four Roads on Wednesday (May 6, 2026).
