Dindigul Collector S. Saravanan on Monday presided over a meeting with officials of various departments regarding monsoon preparedness measures ahead of the Southwest monsoon.

The Collector said a total of 84 places in the district have been identified as prone to impact and out of the total identified places, 24 places were identified as highly vulnerable, four places as moderately vulnerable and 56 places as minimally vulnerable.

As part of the preparedness measures, a total of 75 relief centres have been kept ready across the district. Schools, community and marriage halls have also been kept ready for use in case of emergency.

The Fire and Rescue Services Department officials are on alert and are ready to immediately undertake rescue operations in case of flooding, landslides, or other incidents.

With regard to Kodaikanal region, heavy machinery such as excavators have been deployed to clear landslides. Other equipment to cut and remove fallen trees, and vehicles to transport affected individuals have also been kept ready for use.

Field inspections have been conducted across all identified locations including low-lying areas, waterbodies, canals, streams, and areas prone to rainwater stagnation. Instructions have been issued to rectify any blockages and remove the encroachments on a war footing, the Collector said.
