The fear of a urea shortage in SPSR Nellore district is unfounded, Kovur MLA Vemireddy Prashanthi Reddy said on Sunday (June 14, 2026), as the government moved to clear farmers’ doubts about supply.

This is more so in SPSR Nellore district, which is known for vast stretches of plain land and hence the promise it holds for agriculture, and paddy cultivation in particular.

The Andhra Pradesh Agricultural Input Management System (APAIMS), the digital platform in the form of a mobile app designed to ensure a stable agricultural support system for farmers, was launched on an experimental basis in this district. Interestingly, the urea distribution to farmers by the Department of Agriculture is also done through this app.

Initially, it was decided to provide 1.5 bags of urea an acre, but when the farmers expressed apprehension whether it would suffice, the same was increased to 2.5 bags and finally to 3 bags an acre.

The teething trouble was apparently felt in getting the details of the farmers and the landholdings entered in the app so as to ensure seamless supply of urea. However, the delay encountered in the process started getting projected as non-availability.

Assured supply

Paddy is cultivated on 55,000 acres in Kovur constituency, through which the Penna flows. Planting of paddy seedlings (varinaatlu) is completed on 42,000 acres, and the remaining extent will be covered in a week.

“4.5 tonnes of urea has been supplied against the total requirement of 7 tonnes in our constituency. Another 2.5 tonnes is ready for supply in Inamadugu godown. In Buchireddypalem mandal, 1350 tonnes of urea has already been disbursed to 7600 acres of farm land. So, the fear of urea shortage is unfounded,” Kovur MLA Vemireddy Prashanthi Reddy said at a media conference.

She urged the farmers not to believe the concocted stories spun by ‘vested interests’ to create a wedge between them and the government.
