With a focus on the implementation of the ‘Drink from Tap’ (DfT) project, the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) on Thursday unveiled a three-day training and peer learning programme in the city, aimed at sharpening the skills of urban local body officials and engineers in modern water supply management and efficient infrastructure practices.

After inaugurating the session, GVMC Commissioner Ketan Garg said that the DfT initiative is vital for ensuring round-the-clock safe and quality drinking water for every household, aligning with the growing requirements of urban areas.

During the sessions, Joint Advisor to the Central Public Health and Environmental Engineering Organisation(CPHEEO), Dr. V.K. Chaurasia, provided a virtual overview of service-level benchmarks and the responsibilities of municipal bodies. Experts, including WATCO consultant Chinmay Tripathi, delivered technical presentations on designing continuous water supply systems.

GVMC Chief Engineer P.V.V. Satyanarayana Raju highlighted the city’s ongoing efforts, focusing on water treatment plant operations and the integration of SCADA-based monitoring systems.

The training will continue through June 20, with field visits to the Madhavadhara SCADA facility and the Gajuwaka Water Treatment Plant scheduled to facilitate practical learning on project planning and capacity building.
