The Forest Department has embarked on the task of compiling details of the number of open wells on farm lands situated about one kilometre away from the reserve forests in Manapparai and Thuvarankurichi forest ranges in Tiruchi district. 

The exercise is being carried out in the wake of incidents of wild animals having fallen into the open wells on private lands in both ranges. Field-level forest department personnel have been conducting physical checks of the open wells falling under their respective jurisdiction as part of the detailed exercise which commenced recently.

The Manapparai and Thuvarankurichi forest ranges consist of a total number 26 and 11 reserve forests respectively with a sizeable presence of Indian Gaur, spotted deer, and other animals besides rock pythons.  The reserve forests falling under the jurisdiction of Manapparai forest range are situated at Karuppurrediapatti, Puthanatham, Veeramalai and Kumarikatti. The reserve forests in Thuvarankurichi forest range are situated at places including Thachamalai and Karumalai.
