Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has approved the introduction of a Vande Bharat sleeper train service between KSR Bengaluru and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus in Mumbai.
The development was shared by P.C. Mohan, Bengaluru Central MP, on Saturday, after he received communication from the Minister. While the approval has been granted, the South Western Railway (SWR) is yet to announce details regarding the train’s schedule and route.
The train will be run and maintained by SWR. According to SWR officials, the semi-high-speed sleeper service is expected to greatly enhance overnight travel between Bengaluru and Mumbai, providing improved comfort and an overall better travel experience for passengers.
This will be the second Vande Bharat sleeper train in the country. The first such service, introduced in January 2026, runs between Howrah and Kamakhya.
In a post on X, Mr. Mohan expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Mr. Vaishnaw, and Minister of State for Railways and Jal Shakti V. Somanna for approving the project, stating that it would enhance connectivity and public convenience.
